A new report has surfaced revealing details about the future of the Assassin’s Creed series. Its next game is apparently titled Assassin’s Creed Rift and will take place in Baghdad. This makes sense, as it is thought that the next Assassin’s Creed began its life as an expansion for Valhalla. Plus Basim, who is one of the most popular characters from Valhalla, is from Baghdad. Given his popularity, Basim could be transitioning into the protagonist role.
These claims surfaced through Jason Schreier, a reputable journalist for Bloomberg. Schreier took to Reddit to respond to a post claiming that the next Assassin’s Creed game would focus on the Aztecs. This post was based on a tweet posted by Jeremy Penter who has previously leaked details about Far Cry Primal.
Schreier’s response reads, “The next Assassin’s Creed game is Rift, which is set in Baghdad”. He also claims that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will come after Rift. Assassin’s Creed Infinity will reportedly have “a bunch of different games/experiences/biomes,” suggesting that it won’t only cover one region.
It’s worth being skeptical about the validity of these claims. Even though Schreier has a good reputation when it comes to leaking information, this isn’t an official confirmation. Until Ubisoft drops an announcement it is best to treat Assassin’s Creed Rift and its alleged setting in Baghdad as rumors.
Where could Infinity take place?
If Assassin’s Creed Infinity does take place in multiple settings, that gives Ubisoft the chance to make a lot of fans happy. Areas such as India, Japan, and the Roman Empire have been requested by fans for years. As a franchise, Assassin’s Creed is still popular, but it has declined slightly since its peak. Releasing a mainline installment with all of the most requested regions would be a great way to turn things around.
