Crystal Dynamics has announced it’ll be releasing a Lara Croft game via digital download sometime this year. The game, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, will not be a Tomb Raider game, and will focus more on the busty protagonist, Lara Croft.“Lara Croft is such an iconic character in video games, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience,” said Darrell Gallagher, general manager of the studio, but what exactly that will consist of is yet to be announced.Because it’s a digital release, we reckon it’ll be of a similar ilk to Battlefield 1943, with the main focus on multiplayer. However, whether there’s a single player game mode is something that’s not been confirmed or denied, but from Gallagher’s comments it seems the company has taken a different route with the game.”This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting.”With the Tomb Raider reboot expected within the next 12-16 months in the shape of a new movie, it’s no surprise there’s an announcement for a game. The game will most likely support the story being told in the movie. There will be more on this at GDC next week, and although no release platforms have been announced, I think it’s fair to say we can expect it on PSN and XBLA, with a chance of it coming to PC too.
