Capcom has confirmed that fighter balancing has been tweaked in the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV.
Speaking to Gamespot, the series’ producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that while he is sceptical of some claims of fighter imbalance, changes have been made in the sequel.
“I know there is the legend of overpowered Sagat and supposedly weak Vega (Balrog in Japan) and Guile etc., but these tierings really depend on the reviewer and their favourite characters,” he said.
“Also, although everyone talks about Sagat being too strong, I don’t know any major tournament champion who uses Sagat. But I do admit the unique elements of characters are exploited at midlevel matches, and this has been readjusted in SSFIV.”
Ono went on to say that “tuning” has been implemented for all characters in the game following an “unbelievable amount of research” on characters and tactics.
