There’s big news this afternoon for anyone following the recent Diablo rumours. David Brevik appears to have been hired by Blizzard as an advisor for a new ARPG which is in the works at Blizzard.

The news comes via a tweet from Brevik in the early hours which is also accompanied by a picture of the constellation of Libra. Brevik said, “For 20 years, Diablo-like games have evolved & surprised us. I’m proud to be the adviser for the game that pushes this genre to new heights.”

Fans are now trying to figure out what this image could mean. Is it a new Diablo game? A reworking of Diablo 2? The message does suggest that it could be a completely new ARPG.

Because of David’s excellent work on Diablo, Diablo 2, and Marvel Heroes, Blizzard has decided they need some real expertise on whatever this new game is. Diablo 3 was a disappointment compared to Diablo 2 and if anyone can come in and help Blizzard create a fantastic ARPG it’s Brevik.

What does the image mean? It’s the constellation of Libra, which according to Wikipedia, “the Sun appears in the constellation Libra from October 31 to November 22”. This coincides with the period leading up to and over Blizzcon. Based on that alone, we could see more teasers this week before some kind of reveal.

Update: Brevik confirms no involvement with Diablo franchise.
