As previously announced, the Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore campaign has launched today on Kickstarter. The first-person, party based RPG is looking for $390,000 USD and development is being headed by Guido Henkel, the chap behind the Realms of Arkania series.
In the previous news post, I speculated that it would be an RPG in the style of Eye of the Beholder and other dungeon crawlers. That still seems true to an extent, but it seems like the first-person navigation of the game world is less fixed-view and more free-looking. The four-person party construction, extensive trait selections and turn-based combat all still seem in-keeping with that era though.
The Kickstarter page itself has a fair amount of information about the proposed title on it, but if you want to read even more in-depth developer thoughts then the official site has various dev diaries to read through. Naturally, there are a full selection of pledge levels and reward tiers for backers to choose from.
G3 Studios have already put some thought into stretch goals, in case the project makes more than the required $390,000 USD. These include an optional third-person camera view for the turn-based combat, in-game towns (with blacksmiths, healers and the like,) an overworld map and a fully editable quest journal. Effectively, the more money the game raises, the greater the scope of the world.
