Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Switch Skill Swap

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak — How to unlock the Switch Skill Swap

Change things up on the fly.

If you’ve been playing Monster Hunter Rise, then you’ve probably complained about the Switch Skill system at one point in time. With several abilities at your disposal, it seemed that there’s nothing you could do to change them unless you went back to check your trunk. Thankfully, the expansion has a new nifty change that’s an absolute improvement. Here’s our Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak guide to help you with the new Switch Skill Swap mechanic.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – Switch Skill Swap guide

To unlock the Switch Skill Swap in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, you’ll want to have access to the expansion’s arc, subsequently completing additional tasks as you go along. Here’s the gist:

  • You’ll need to complete Hub Rank 7: Serpent Goddess of Thunder (i.e., defeat the main campaign’s final boss).
  • Talk to an NPC named Rondine at the bridge leading to Kamura Village.
  • Take out the Daimyo Hermitaur and tell Fiorayne that you want to travel to Elgado Outpost.

In Elgado Outpost, talk to a few NPCs until you meet Arena Master Arlow. Suddenly, Master Itsushi pops up, and he says that he’s got some new tricks to teach you. Accept his proposal and you’ll be back at the arena. Itsushi will then provide you with several new Switch Skills (one for each weapon). Even better, this nets you the Switch Skill Swap feature in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

To use it, head over to any item box and select “Manage Switch Skills.” You’ll see the Red Scroll and Blue Scroll. These are essentially loadout sets, and you can select the types of abilities you want for your given weapon.

Next, bring up the commands by holding the left trigger button on your gamepad (the same one that you use if you want to grapple with the Wirebug). Then, press both attack buttons (i.e., “Y” and “B”) to cause your character to change their loadout scroll.

This system allows you to change your abilities on the fly, which is extremely useful in the heat of battle. In my case, I’ve been very happy with the Dual Blades for the most part, but I’ve had issues depending on the boss’ height and attack patterns. Now, I can do the Demon Flurry Rush while a target is grounded or if I’m just battling smaller creatures. And, I’m also able to swap to Demon Flight if a target’s movement is more erratic or if it’s a lot larger. You can also use this in conjunction with other activated skills to improve evasion, counters, and the dynamics of combat.
