As you advance further in Monster Hunter Rise, you’ll be able to start the expansion’s arc. Naturally, the process of getting there tends to be long and arduous, filled with countless missions and a lot of farming to boot. And, even after beating your foe, you might feel slightly unprepared. Here’s our Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak guide to help you start the expansion and beat the Daimyo Hermitaur.
Note: We’ll have a Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak guides and features hub soon, so stay tuned. Likewise, please be reminded that this guide contains spoilers for the base game’s campaign.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak – How to start the expansion and beat the Daimyo Hermitaur
Complete “Serpent Goddess of Thunder” by beating Thunder Serpent Narwa
The sole requirement to unlock the new arc in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is the completion of a Hub Rank 7 quest called “Serpent Goddess of Thunder.” This can take you a while since you’ll need to focus on increasing your Hub Rank and doing some Village Quests to help you learn the ropes. After a lot of farming, you should be ready to take on this quest where you’ll fight Thunder Serpent Narwa.
This Elder Dragon is a formidable foe, as she repeatedly casts lightning all over the battlefield. Moreover, this encounter becomes a true test of your Wirebug mastery. This is because Narwa creates floating platforms that can only be reached if you use your Wirebug effectively while avoiding spells that knock you back. Those platforms have ballistae and cannons that should help in bringing down Narwa’s HP.
Due to the nature of this bout, and because discussing it in detail will detract from our topic, my suggestion is to watch the video below from YouTuber OmegaEvolution so you’ll know what to expect:
Defeat the Daimyo Hermitaur
After eliminating Narwa, you can still do optional tasks, such as increasing your Hub Rank further. But, if you’d like to start the campaign of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, you’ll want to speak to a new NPC named Rondine. You’ll find her just before the bridge that leads to Kamura Village. Rondine tells you of the threat of the “Three Lords,” powerful creatures that await you on a new continent.
Before you could do that, though, you’ll have to face the Daimyo Hermitaur. Simply start the Urgent Quest and find its location in the Shrine Ruins.
To defeat the Daimyo Hermitaur in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, you’ll need to beware of its attacks. Even though you’ve taken out the main campaign’s final boss, this giant crab can make quick work of you if you’re not careful.
The Daimyo Hermitaur has the following notable attacks:
- Leaping Crash – The boss will jump high up before crashing down on your location.
- Burrowing Strike – It will burrow underground, chasing you for a few seconds before suddenly emerging.
- Water Cannon – The water cannon is shot in a straight line in front of it. It has decent range, so try to sidestep to avoid it. Later, once it’s been weakened considerably, it will also use this ability while skittling sideways.
Arrival at Elgado Outpost
A short cinematic will play after you’re done with the Daimyo Hermitaur where your character and Master Utsushi are aided by a knight named Fiorayne. Then, back in Kamura Village, Fiorayne will ask if you’re ready to leave (don’t worry since you’ll be able to return to Kamura in a short while).
There’s another cinematic where you’re sailing off to the new continent, eventually landing on Elgado Outpost. It’s where you’re taught the system of progression by way of Master Rank Quest. Likewise, you’ll meet more NPCs who have similar functions to those in Kamura.
One of them is Chichae the Quest Damsel, who basically provides you with the necessary tasks for advancement. A short conversation with Chichae makes the world map function available so you can go back to Kamura whenever you wish. Soon, you’ll even unlock Follower Quests where NPCs tag along in single-player adventures, as well as the Skill Switch Swap mechanic.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available via Steam.
