Monkey Island 2 Special Edition This Summer

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Lucas Arts has announced that Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge will come to all gaming platforms this summer. The special edition will include new high-definition graphics, re-mastered music and a complete new voiceover recording with the original cast, as well as an in–depth hint system. The game will see you control Guybrush directly, so negating the need for the point-and-click mechanic which made the game awesome. Having said that, there will still be an option to play in the traditional point-and-click manner. In addition to this, you can expect commentary from the game’s creators, Ron Gilbert and Tim Schaefer, as they reminisce the original making of the game.”The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition really resonated with gamers young and old thanks to its classic storyline and updated gameplay features,” said LucasArts’ President Darrell Rodriguez. “We’re adding even more great new features in this sequel and can’t wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved installment in the franchise ever.”So you’ll be able to get this on Mac, iPhone, iPod touch, PC, PS3 and 360 this summer. It’ll be available for digital download on the PS3, from Aspyr’s www.GameAgent.com and from Telltale Games’ online store. Whether the game will see a boxed release in Europe for the PS3 is unlikely, as we’ve recently learned that Sony Europe prefers to distribute digitally.Bizarrely enough however, LucasArts has opted not to release this on the DS, a trick we believe it’s missing.  Why?  We’ve put that question to them and will get back to you as soon as we know why. Either way, it’s certainly worth picking up when it becomes available. Everyone needs to play this game.  And to see how it worked when the first Special Edition release came last year, check out Tim’s reviews.
