To complete the Modern Warfare Zombies Freeze Burn mission, you need to equip a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod and slow a lot of zombies and Hellhounds. In this guide, you’ll find the easiest way to find a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod and complete the Freeze Burn mission.
Where to find Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod in Modern Warfare Zombies
Ideally, you’ll find a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod Schematic and be able to craft it whenever you want. Since Schematics are hard to find and come down to RNG for which one you’ll get, the best way to get a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod is through Aether Nests.

Clear out an Aether Nest by destroying all the cysts. Once it’s cleared, you’ll likely find an Ammo Mod or two in the main Loot Cache. You have a one in five chance of it being Cryo which isn’t the worst odds. However, if it isn’t Cryo, you need to try another Aether Nest until you find one.
While Aether Nests are the best ways to get Ammo Mods, the Take Up Arms mission in Act 1 tier 1 rewards you with a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod. If you haven’t used that yet, go into your Gear and put the Ammo Mod into your Rucksack. With that, you basically have one chance to finish Freeze Burn or else you’ll be fishing for a Cryo Ammo Mod like everyone else who died trying.
How to easily slow zombies and Hellhounds in Modern Warfare Zombies
With a Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod in your Rucksack, open it up and equip it. This will apply the Ammo Mod to your currently equipped weapon. But, what’s the easiest way to slow zombies and Hellhounds?
When trying to complete the Freeze Burn mission myself, I noticed that I defeated many zombies before the slow effect from my Cryo Ammo Mod could take effect. With a stroke of genius, I realized that if I went to Threat Zone Two with an un-Pack-a-Punched weapon, my bullets would have a higher chance of freezing zombies.
Turns out it’s true! The best way to slow 50 zombies and 10 Hellhounds to complete the Freeze Burn mission in MWZ is to do it in Threat Zone Two against spongier enemies. Here, you’ll not only slow (which counts when an enemy freezes) your enemies once, but you can slow them multiple times before you end up defeating them.
The only red flag I need to raise with this strategy is you could die if you aren’t careful since this area is more dangerous. I ran out of ammo and got overrun and ended up dying before I could completely finish Freeze Burn. Now, I need to hunt for another Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod.
How to find Hellhounds in Modern Warfare Zombies
The hardest part about the Freeze Burn mission in my opinion is finding 10 Hellhounds and slowing them with the Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod before they die. I found that the best way to create an endless Hellhound farm is to start a Raid Weapon Stash Contract and stand away from the safe so it doesn’t progress.
Every so often during a Raid Weapon Stash Contract, two Hellhounds will appear and rush you. The best way to hit them with slow before you immediately kill them is to aim for their torso, not their head, and use a pistol or other weapon that won’t one-shot the dog. If you do this, you’ll earn your 10 Hellhound Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod kills in no time.
