Call of Duty Modern Warfare

Modern Warfare season one launches December 3

The kitchen sink has been thrown.

Modern Warfare has officially announced the release date of season one and what it contains. On December 3, players can expect the start of the biggest free content drop in Call of Duty history. Not all the content listed here will be available on that day, but let’s go over what to expect from season one.

New and old maps

Modern Warfare has received much criticism around both map design and the approach – or avoidance – of the three-lane system we are used to seeing in Call of Duty. This update is adding three fan-favorite maps from previous titles to the multiplayer rotation: Crash, Vacant, and Shipment. This brings me back to the good ol’ original Modern Warfare days on the Xbox 360.

A new ground war map will also be added in season one called Port. The image of the map reminds me of Cargo Docks from the Black Ops 4 Blackout mode, which happened to be my favorite place to land.

Three or more Gunfights maps are making their way to Modern Warfare: Cargo, Atrium, and more. Atrium vaguely reminds me of the map Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect created. It’s a little more eerie and outdoors, but the word “atrium” fits his map pretty well. Cargo will be a variation of Shipment designed specifically for the 2v2 playlist. The “and more” part is exciting because that means at least two other maps will be released, and maybe even more.

Multiplayer additions

Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Three new multiplayer modes will be added in season one of Modern Warfare: Reinforce, Gunfight OSP, and Infected. Reinforce is a game mode I have never heard of, and that is pretty exciting. It may resemble Safe Guard from Black Ops 4, but that mode involved escorting a big robot. I don’t see that happening in Modern Warfare, though it may be a similar iteration.

Gunfight OSP will, obviously, be a new take on the 2v2 mode, but we aren’t sure what the “OSP” bit means.

Infected is a classic Call of Duty mode. Much like Gun Game, this a for-fun game mode to kick back and enjoy with friends or solo. Modern Warfare has received criticism in the past about a lack of game modes, but Infinity Ward has made a conscious effort to fix that issue. Season one appears to do that quite handsomely.

Spec ops

Season one will add over five more special ops missions to Modern Warfare: Bomb Squad, Grounded, Pitch Black, Just Reward, and more. This will provide players with more challenging PvE content to complete with friends or solo. Maybe one of these new experiences will be what we are talking about in 10 years, much like Hidden from the original Modern Warfare.

New weapons

Two new weapons will find their way into our loadouts on December 3: the RAM-7 and HOLGER-26. The RAM-7 looks like it could be an Assault Rifle or a Submachine gun, but the magazine on HOLGER-26 confuses me as to what it is. The body of the gun looks like a G36, but the magazine looks like that of an auto shotgun. I’m not a weapons expert, but that weapon design is throwing me for a loop. Whatever the case, Infinity Ward has stated these weapons can be earned for free. No more loot crate weapons like last year.
