MMO Weekly: Game Vs. Meta-Game

Hey there, my fellow MMO addicts, and welcome to this week’s philosophical edition of MMO Weekly. In this week’s edition, I’m going to discuss a couple of game terms that appear, at least to me, to be poorly understood by the community overall, and, most importantly, poorly understood by many game designers themselves. Yeah, yeah, that’s very shocking, but read on. All will be made clear.I am, as the title suggests, referring to the competing terms “game”, and “meta-game”, when it comes to MMOs. These two terms describe two distinct areas of an MMO, and they overlap a little bit. However, they are very distinct from one another, as we are about to see.
