Since the game was shuttered at the end of November, fans of the game came together to create a successor to the superhero MMORPG. Two projects emerged, Heroes and Villains and another called The Phoenix Project. Both projects spawned from the Titan Network, a place where the CoH community has been gathering.

Over the weekend The Phoenix Project team announced the forming a new group of developers called Missing Worlds Media who are working on creating a new superhero MMO as a spiritual successor to City of Heroes.

The game will be powered by CryENGINE 3 and a first trailer has been released which showcases some of the ideas and art the new team will be working on.

Cameron Johnson, creative director of The Phoenix Project said: “We are proud to formally announce the inception of the Phoenix Project with a brand new promotional video showcasing a virtual gallery of concept art for a new, comic-themed MMORPG. The video showcases some art assets and the capability to build a virtual world and film within it, and I hope it gives some idea about what we’re trying to achieve with the characters and the world they will populate.”
