Mirror’s Edge reboot re-announced as Mirror’s Edge Catalyst

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

The existence of a Mirror’s Edge reboot shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anybody, since it was announced at last year’s E3; but DICE have decided to give it a re-announcement.

Faith’s new outing now has a slightly more substantial title – Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – to distinguish it from the original game, and the intent is still to “introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation.”

According to a note from the game’s Senior Producer, Sara Jansson, on the site linked above: “We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.”

So, again, it’s not Mirror’s Edge 2. It’ll be a reboot, reworking, whatever you fancy calling it, of the original game. Quite what those “new, interesting” gameplay and features will be isn’t entirely clear yet. Luckily, there’s another E3 event just around the corner. I’m sure DICE and EA will have more to say about the game this time around.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is scheduled for release in the early months of 2016.
