According to Microsoft and 343 Industries, Halo 4 will “redefine and revolutionise the way people think about storytelling and multiplayer gameplay.”

Well… I hope they’re right. The day Master Chief revolutionises storytelling… well, you get the idea.

Anyway, how is Halo 4 going to do that? Through the ‘Halo Infinity Multiplayer’, we’re told.

Infinity refers to the UNSC Infinity, the largest starship in the military’s fleet, which serves as your multiplayer and “Spartan career” hub. The Infinity keeps track of all of your multiplayer stats and will monitor changes to your appearance, weapons and combat role based on your “game choices.”

Your multiplayer outings apparently intersect with the Halo 4 campaign storyline, and “then continues on in a brand-new, story-driven experience known as Spartan Ops.” Spartan Ops is played out through episodes that “unprecedented serialized experience.”

Spartan Ops is a weekly series of short films that will be downloadable at no extra charge to Halo 4 players and tells the story of the UNSC Infinity and its crew. The episodes form the backdrop to weekly gameplay missions – these, confusingly, are also called Spartan Ops and are playable in single player or up to four player co-op.

So, the campaign’s story will continue with weekly shows that also tie-in to weekly gameplay missions. Oh, and multiplayer also fits into the story somewhere. Now that, ladies and gents, is revolutionary.
