As fans of the franchise will likely know, there has been a plan for a Metal Gear Solid Movie for quite a while now, and it has been a bit problematic in the past, with production starting and stopping repeatedly.
However, the 25th Anniversary event for Metal Gear gives fans a reason to hold onto their hope for the movie again. Konami announced that the movie is officially going forward again. Columbia Pictures will be behind the movie, with Avi Arad producing the movie. Avi Arad is know for movies such as: The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man and X-men.
Avi Arad said:
“Comic books are now biggest genre in cinema, Video games are the comic books of today, We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed.”
Unfortunately most games that get movie proposals rarely come to fruition, such as the Uncharted, Bioshock and Mass Effect movies which appear to be stuck in development for what could be a very long time, though most will never release. Hopefully though the Metal Gear Solid movie will have a bit more luck, and with a mention at the 25th anniversary event it’s a good sign the Hideo Kojima is fully behind the film.
