After quite a few hints pointing towards the fact, Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls Online, an MMO based in the Elder Scrolls universe, is in development for PC and Mac. ZeniMax Online Studios (headed by Matt Firor, one of the founders of Mythic Entertainment) is handling the development duties.
Details beyond that are still a little scarce, thanks to a pesky agreement with a certain pulped-tree based publication who’ll be running more details about the game in their June issue.
Here’s what we do know: it’ll take place on the entire continent of Tamriel, it’s based a millennium before the events in Skyrim and a chap named Molag Bal is screwing around with the world. Features-wise, there’ll be solo questing, public dungeons and a three-way PVP-fest amongst factions. The game is due in 2013.
“It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years” says Firor, “The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”
More information is also likely to be revealed during E3 in June, so keep an eye out for that.
