Lost in Random got a new gameplay trailer and a release date earlier today during EA Play Live 2021. The dark fairytale game is heading to PC via Origin and Steam on September 10 this year, where you’ll be able to battle it out with dice to save your kidnapped sister. Lost in Random is coming from the Swedish studio Zoink, which launched Fe back in 2018.
Unlike the colorful Fe, however, Lost in Random leans hard on dark themes. Inspired by depressing fairytales of yore (and not those subversive Disney versions), the game stars a small girl named Even on the search for her sister Odd after the latter was snatched away by an evil queen. She’s joined by a sentient die named Dicey, and together they travel the six realms in the Kingdom of Random kicking the collective asses of fairytale monsters.
“When we first started this project, we knew we wanted to create a fairytale that was a bit darker than what we’ve made in the past; we ended up drawing these different characters and concepts, but it wasn’t until this painting of a girl and her dice appeared that we knew there was something more to explore,” said Olov Redmalm, creative director and lead writer for Lost in Random, in a press release.

Rolling on out
As you can probably guess by the theme, combat is engaged using dice rolls. Equipped with a slingshot, Even can roll Dicey to activate abilities such as a time freeze and other wonderous magics. Strategy in combat will lead you to victory in Lost in Random. Even also carries with her a deck of abilities, like cards, that can turn the tides.
Lost in Random will launch for PC on September 10.
