Lollipop Chainsaw(1)

Lollipop Chainsaw is apparently coming ‘back’ in some fashion after a decade

Candy-covered zombie action.

Lollipop Chainsaw isn’t high art by any means, but it was a fun surprise back in 2012. Players were treated to Juliet Starling, a fun “final-girl” type of character as she slashed zombies with a pink, heart-engraved chainsaw. And it looks like the icon might make her return in some way based on a tweet by Yoshimi Yasuda, the former CEO of Kadokawa Games. We’re getting this news on the dawn of Lollipop Chainsaw’s 10th anniversary, bringing in speculation about how Juliet Starling will return. A Lollipop Chainsaw sequel would be nice, but that isn’t the most likely outcome.

Lollipop Chainsaw was a goofy, violent action game starring a cheerleader and a ton of zombies. It also featured Juliet Starling’s boyfriend, who provided commentary on Juliet’s waist as a severed head. Yeah. To top off the weirdness of the game, part of the original story involved Juliet performing a voodoo curse on her boyfriend to save his life, causing his head alone to become sentient. All in the name of love, I suppose.

Yasuda’s tweet teased the return with a short but sweet message: “Lollipop Chainsaw is back by Dragami Games. Please look forward to it.” While a Lollipop Chainsaw sequel is ideal, it’s possible this news could simply hint at a remake or port for modern consoles. After all, the game is a decade old, originally released on phased-out platforms like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Before the franchise moves any further, it’s likely the developers will try and introduce more fans first.

Either way, this manic, chainsaw-wielding, lollipop-eating cheerleader is coming back and bringing a whole horde of the undead with her. It’ll be exciting to see how this story develops, but regardless of what future content we get, I’m totally ready to rev up this old chainsaw again, Lollipop Chainsaw sequel or not.
