The passing of Leonard Nimoy saw an outpouring of condolences from sci-fi fans around the world and he will never be forgotten.
When Leonard Nimoy passed away on Friday the Internet exploded with messages of condolence, gamers, sci-fans, astronauts, the US President, Â in fact anyone who had an interest in space or science fiction. It truly was a sad day.
Fans have come together and it wasn’t surprising that Star Trek Online players flocked to the planet Vulcan to pay their respects. Cryptic Studios has now announced that an permanent memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy will be erected in the game as part of their weekly maintenance on 5 March. Crytpics’ executive producer Steve Ricossa added:
“I want to once again express my heartfelt condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Leonard Nimoy. Everyone at Cryptic Studios was saddened to hear of his passing and we want to make sure we never forget the cultural impact of the man or the character he played. To that end, the Star Trek Online team will implement a standing in-game memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy this Thursday March 5th with our regular weekly maintenance.
“In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts.”
The Elite Dangerous community were also shocked by the news which prompted community members to suggested that a permanent memorial to the actor be added to the game. Frontier’s Michael Brooked confirmed he will be remembered in-game.
“Just a heads up that there’ll be a Nimoy Memorial station added in the Wings update (1.2).
“I should have mentioned that it will be in the LHS 3006 system around the only suitably named planet.”
Watch out for these memorials to appear in both games, and I think you’ll agree that these are fitting gestures. LLAP!
