What are the Cozy and Expert modes in LEGO Fortnite?

You can choose Cozy or Expert rulesets when you create a new LEGO Fortnite world. We’ll dive into specifics in a moment, but Cozy is for players who want a relaxed experience but want more progression than you get in Creative mode.

Expert mode ramps up the difficulty with stronger enemies and the threat of permadeath! There is a way to cheat death, but this mode is for combat-focused players who relish a challenge.

Now that you know what each mode entails, let’s take a closer look.

Cozy settings may be perfect if you don’t want to play Creative mode but find the regular mode too tricky. All the progression and survival mechanics of the regular mode are here, but with some key changes:

  • Enemies are turned on, but they are easier to beat than usual.
  • Hunger, Temperature, and Stamina are turned off.
  • Players keep their inventory upon death.
  • The power system is disabled.
  • Village animals aren’t removed upon elimination.

These settings all soften the blow if the unfortunate happens. Instead of losing all of your hard-earned gear if you die, you return to your village with everything intact. Also, all of these settings can be tweaked; these are just the default Cozy settings.

Cozy mode also removes most of the Survival meters, like Hunger and Stamina. If you can’t bear the thought of losing your beloved pet pig, well, you don’t have to worry about that either!

You can change every setting in Cozy mode, but the presets will be great for casual or younger players looking to try their first Survival Crafting game.

Keep in mind that the same rules apply to building complexity on busy maps.

On the other end of the scale, we have Expert mode, which makes LEGO Fortnite far more challenging. For starters, all regular enemies are stronger than usual, so your equipment matters.

As I mentioned previously, there’s Permadeath in Expert mode, which means death removes your character from the world. You can cheat death if you have the Totem of Return in your inventory, but it breaks upon use.

If you’re a glutton for punishment, you’ll be pleased to learn you can earn items for your efforts in Expert mode. You’ll earn exclusive trophies if you defeat any of the Storm-Wild Brutes while you have a level 10 village.

Storm-Wild enemies are turned on by default in Expert mode but can be enabled elsewhere. These enemies have more health, deal more damage, and move faster than usual. In other words, you must be very careful if you pick a fight with one.

Every hostile mob in LEGO Fortnite has a Storm-Wild variant, and they make exploring more treacherous than it’s ever been before.

These Storm-Wild enemies are hard to outrun as they have increased movement speed, so it may be worth using a vehicle.
