After yesterday’s tease of League of Legends new champion Gnar we now have more details.

First of all let’s find out exactly who Gnar actually is as detailed by Riot.

Time marches on for most, but not Gnar. A yordle born millennia ago, Gnar was captured and trapped in true ice, frozen – quite literally – in time. Civilizations formed and fell as the prehistoric yordle vacantly stared on, but nothing – not even true ice – could confine Gnar forever. After breaking free, he wandered Runeterra until he found himself taken in by his yordle descendants. But, as they would soon discover, there’s a beast behind the boy.

Gnar comes with the following abilities.

Gnar

We mentioned yesterday that Gnar will be suited to the top lane and he’s now also been confirmed as a tank and fighter with the passive ability of Rage Gene to switch between two Gnar forms. Gnar needs to charge his rage through combat and once in Mega Gnar form the rage drains so there’s an incentive to engage.

Gnar is also going to work best with Lulu, Amumu and Orianna and will find it tough against Teemo, Irelia and Fizz according to Riot.

Riot’s goal with Gnar was to create a champion that can transform but at the same time have “strengths and weaknesses in both forms then limit the player’s ability to control which form they play in”. With two forms to think about he sounds quite versatile, but as Riot point out, when he’s cornered in Mini Gnar form he’s going to “die fast”. On the other hand Mega Gnar is tough but he’s slow so it’s a trade off between toughness and agility.

You can read more about Gnar on the new reveal page which also comes with a few videos of the skills in action.
