Following Square Enix’s decision to sell the Hitman studio, IO Interactive have announced layoffs. In a brief twitter post, the studio say they “had to make some changes” in order to be “better equipped for our future adventures”.
Square announced that they would be cutting ties with IO Interactive and looking to sell the studio back on 11 May. To date, there’s been no news of a buyer. IO Interactive were part of the £84.3 million GBP purchase of Eidos Interactive made by Square Enix in 2009.
It remains unclear whether IO will retain control of the Hitman property. While they remain without a publisher, the studio is having to make staff redundant. “We are doing everything possible to look after everyone affected,” the message adds. “Thank you for your support and understanding”.
