In Last Epoch, you have the chance to play with other players online, but how does the co-op multiplayer feature work?
While some games allow you to see other players roaming the world online, others will only let you join a party of friends that you know. Here’s how it works in this action RPG.
Co-op multiplayer in Last Epoch, explained
On March 9, 2023, Eleventh Hour Games added an online multiplayer option. But how exactly does co-op multiplayer work in Last Epoch? Well, you can be in a party of up to four players if you’ve chosen the “Play Online” option in the main menu upon booting up this game.
While you’re allowed to play offline, you can choose online play for Last Epoch to play in a party with some friends. This will allow you to invite your Steam friends to join your party, and of course, they must choose to play online as well. Once someone is invited, a portal will appear and they can step through to enter their friend’s world.

Does Last Epoch have PvP?
You and your friend will be working alongside each other to take on enemy hordes and loot dungeons, so there’s no PvP, only PvE. But if you’re not in a party, you’ll be able to see other random players online through Town Hubs. When traversing certain towns, you have the chance to find random players who are also in that town.
The multiplayer feature is server authoritative, which helps to prevent cheating and allows for systems like races and leaderboards. This also gives you to access your character on any system, so it’s not tied to your PC.
Unfortunately, unlike Diablo 4, Last Epoch doesn’t have a local co-op feature. There’s no split-screen co-op, so your friend must also purchase Last Epoch to be able to play with you. If you’re attempting to play online, but you’re noticing an “Online Play Unavailable” message, we have a guide to help with that.
