Kerbal Space Program 2 Performance Beta Upside Down Plane

Kerbal 2 developer apologizes for performance woes, updates PC spec sheet

A less-than-successful liftoff.

Last Friday, the highly anticipated Kerbal Space Program 2 finally made its way to Early Access after numerous delays. Unfortunately, even after all this time, it seems that the game still needs a lot of work. Kerbal Space Program 2 currently sits at a “Mixed” user rating on Steam, with many players citing severe performance issues as among the more notable flaws. Shortly before the Early Access version’s release, developer Intercept Games posted a Steam news update apologizing for its communication regarding PC specs. Additionally, the developer specifically updated the game’s recommended specs to better reflect what players can expect going in.

According to the developers, the current spec recommendations will not remain static forever. Since the game remains in Early Access and the developers continue to optimize the performance, the spec recommendations will inevitably update as the performance improves. The developer ensured that it will try to notify fans when certain updates substantially improve the performance.

Does Kerbal 2 have any specific performance issues?

Optimizing the fuel flow and resource system serves as one method through which the developer plans on patching up the game’s performance. The developer notes that as of right now, equipping your ship with a sizable amount of engines negatively affects the game’s framerate. Intercept Games states that “this has to do with CPU-intensive fuel flow and Delta-V update calculations that are exacerbated when multiple engines are pulling from a common fuel source.” Although the developer considered the system stable, it acknowledged that it needs more work. By improving this system, the game will, hopefully, run a fair bit better.

Of course, Kerbal Space Program 2 requires plenty of other fixes for the performance to operate at a satisfactory level. Not only that, but players have also reported several bugs in addition to the performance issues, so the developers will need to work on those as well. You can take a look at the current spec recommendations below.
