IO Interactive has revealed details of the new ‘Down not Dead’ feature in Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.

The mechanic essentially gives players a second chance when they are hit by a big shot that would normally kill them. At that point, the player is given the option to shoot back or drag themselves to cover. Hence down, but not dead.

“Now, the thing to remember is that this is not a guaranteed life saver,” reads a blog post on the official site.

“You might not go ‘down not dead’ when your health runs out and it’s not designed to be a second health system. Instead, it kicks in when you get one of those massive hits that would normally be one-shot-one-kill hits. If you get multiple smaller hits, you’ll eventually die so it’s wise to always try to anticipate reactions and gauge the situation sensibly.”

IO also states that the feature applies to the multiplayer game too so, in the Fragile Alliance mode for instance, you may find yourself stabbed in the back by a team mate, but ‘Down not Dead’ gives you the chance to get your own back. NPCs in the single player game will also be able to use the mechanic meaning you’ll have to be careful to make sure downed enemies are no longer breathing.
