The good news is that yes, there will be romance in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as confirmed by Capcom. Not only will there be some explicit content as proven by the Mature rating, but Capcom also confirmed a romance system of sorts. This may not be exactly like the Beloved system from the original game, but there’s romance in some form.

Throughout Dragon’s Dogma 2, as you complete quests for NPCs and get to know them better, you can start to gain Affinity with them. Just like in the first game, you can build Affinity with NPCs to then hopefully choose a Beloved.

Although Capcom has yet to explicitly confirm the Beloved system’s return, it did confirm Affinity and the idea of romance. By the end of the first game, your Beloved would be the NPC you had the most Affinity with, so I assume this may be the same in the sequel.

Capcom even mentioned the idea that NPCs can fight for your Arisen’s affection, as Hideaki Itsuno, the creator of Dragon’s Dogma, explained in an IGN interview. Even if not presented romantically, NPCs can get jealous of each other.

But what about the Mature rating? Well, you’ll apparently be able to spend time at brothels and witness a kissing scene before it fades to black. Nothing explicit, but who knows whether or not there will be any scene like this for a Beloved of some sort.

The relationship you have with the NPCs is certainly special. Don’t treat these characters like they’re nothing because they can permanently die without your help in saving them.
