Is Shadows Of Mordor Using Assassin’s Creed 2 Code?

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Charles Randall, a former Ubisoft developer who worked on the first two Assassin’s Creed games is accusing Shadows of Mordor of using codes and animations from Assassin’s Creed 2. After seeing the new Shadows of Mordor gameplay trailer, Randall tweeted: “Check it out guys! I apparently made a Middle Earth game!” he followed the tweet up saying: “Seriously, can someone tell me how Assassin’s Creed 2 code and assets are in this Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game?”

Randall realises he has no legal claim to the work but is hoping to be acknowledged in the games credits. It should be noted that Randall did not express any dislike towards the game and expressed enthusiasm at the idea of the Assassin’s Creed engine being used by other developers.

When it was pointed out that the game seems inspired in parts by the recent Batman: ARkham games, Randall said: “I spent two years staring at AC2. I know it when I see it”.
