Is Sea of Thieves down?

Holy ship!

As Sea of Thieves is an online game hosting a staggering amount of players, it may be prone to server issues every once in a while. If you’re having trouble getting on, or if the game tells you that it’s having difficulty with the connection, you’ll want to see if the servers are down.

Server aftermath of Season 11

Since the Season 11 update, Sea of Thieves players, myself included, were met with a litany of errors when trying to play. The game told me in two different ways that the servers are down, and that they’re having a hard time connecting me. I kept trying, and luckily, I managed to get into a server.

At the drop of a huge update, the servers will struggle to readjust to the surge in player count and will have trouble connecting with anyone. The servers aren’t down, although they are struggling. Keep trying, and you’ll eventually be let into a game.

How to check if the Sea of Thieves servers are down

Outside of the Season 11 release, if you’re having trouble connecting and are being hit with the Strawberry Beard error, it may be wise to check the health of the servers. As it’s either a server problem or a you problem, however, it may be wise to check your router, too.

Firstly, quickly check the official Sea of Thieves status page for a detailed rundown of any server-side issues or problems. If no one else is reporting trouble with the Strawberry Beard error, then it’s a problem on your side. Otherwise, all you can do is wait for the servers to stop struggling to let everyone else back into the seas.

If it is not a server issue, and you can’t connect, then try all of the following things:

  • Restart your device
  • Restart the Wi-Fi router

Once everything is restarted, you shouldn’t be facing connection issues any longer.

If your connection is solid, and there are no problems with the server, and you still can’t get on, then I’d wager that persistence is key here. Double-check the game status and check Reddit or Twitter to see if others are reporting the same problem as you.

Now that you’re up to date with how to check the server status of Sea of Thieves, why don’t you check out the best weapons in Modern Warfare 3?
