Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was a love song to many die-hard comic book fans, as it referenced numerous characters, and set up massive heroes for the next title, including Cindy Moon.
Throughout the game, you’re dealing with the luring Symbiote problem, and some eagle-eyed fans have noticed references to the king of all of the Symbiotes, in the form of Knull.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Is Knull Referenced?
Towards the halfway point in Spider-Man 2, the villain of the game takes a dramatic switch as Venom and the on-going Symbiote delima Peter and Harry have been dealing with early on within the game, have now taken over New York.
With the Symbiotes running rampant all over the city, you’re going to be tasked with clearing these nests and saving innocent lives from being transformed into one of them. Eagle-eyed fans of the comic books will notice right away that the symbol these new Symbiote foes are bearing is the iconic swirl, corresponding to Knull.
In the comics, Knull is essentially the god of all Symbiotes, including Venom, and is often referred to as the King in Black; and is relatively new to the MCU, only being introduced back in 2018.
Other indications of Knull being referred to within the game include the elusive meteorite that Venom is concerned with protecting, after stealing the other half from Dr. Connors. As fans have theories that the meteorite has a direct relation to Knull, and is essentially where Venom is able to draw the ultimate power of the Symbiotes.
There was also a neat reference fans picked up during the investigation process into the underground Oscrop laboratory, as a whiteboard by what we can assume is Dr. Connors; also details how the swirl is related to the Symbiotes.
While Knull isn’t directly referred to in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there are some glaring indications that we could get more insight into the character in later DLC packs, or Spider-Man 3.
