It is no surprise that whenever new content is dropped in a live service game, things can go wrong connectivity-wise. A lot of players attempting to log in, server outages, bugs, and many other factors may contribute to the reason why our favorite games are not available for playing. This applies to Destiny 2, which is currently experiencing a prolonged downtime, postponing the exact time of release of the Festival of the Lost.
Is Destiny 2 down?
This question is probably a bit more complicated than you might expect. Server issues do happen and there have been occasions in which Bungie does take a while to fix them. However, it is important to know that, just like other big live service games, Destiny 2 undergoes server maintenance for a couple of hours on Tuesdays. This is also the weekly reset day and when major updates such as new seasons or activities are launched. So, as you might expect, this is where things go extremely chaotic from time to time. So, if you want to check how things are going regarding Destiny 2 server issues or maintenance updates, check out these options:
- The major source for information is the Bungie Help official X handle. This is where any server maintenance is announced and whether downtime will be extended or not during Tuesdays. If any other server issues happen, this is your place to go.
- You can also check Destiny’s Server and Update Status page. This is where you can also check any upcoming server updates or maintenance as well as a detailed schedule.
- Finally, the Destiny DownDetector page is a great resource to confirm whether Bungie or your internet connection is the one responsible for any online issues.
When will Festival of the Lost be playable?
While the Festival of the Lost was originally going to be playable at 11:00 AM PDT, Bungie reported minutes before the ETA that downtime would be extended. After one hour, another update stated the confirmed another downtime extension:

It is currently unknown at what time exactly will the Festival of the Lost be available. At the bare minimum, we could expect it to be playable at 2:00 PM PDT if things go smoothly, but things appear to be going south fast over at Bungie. We will continue to update this situation as soon as Bungie brings forth any news regarding the Festival of the Lost.
