Fans of CS:GO now have their eyes on Counter-Strike 2, especially regarding what platforms it’s available on. Valve’s CS2 is playable on Steam, but what about their Steam Deck? This portable system originally allowed CS:GO to work, but that may not be the same for CS2. We’ll answer whether CS2 is playable or not on the Steam Deck below.
Can you play Counter-Strike 2 on the Steam Deck?
It would be surprising if one of Valve’s own games wasn’t working with the Steam Deck. So naturally, CS2 is playable on the Steam Deck, and literally has the ‘Playable’ verification level. This means that it’s not fully verified at its highest level, but it should run fine.
It’s a good thing that it’s a least playable, because some games are Unsupported, and others just have the Unknown rating. Playable means that while Valve hasn’t yet certified it works at 100% quality, you should be alright playing it on your Steam Deck. Just make sure to check out the settings in CS2 to make sure everything works alright.

You may have some issues with the controls due to the fact that it doesn’t have great controller support. This means that sadly the joysticks don’t really work. It requires a mouse and keyboard to properly play. But if you really want to take it on the go, you’ll want to dock your Steam Deck and use a mouse and keyboard with it.
While CS2 is Playable currently, that doesn’t mean it’s stuck there. Possibly in the future, Valve could bump up CS2 to the Verified tier. Hopefully, because of how successful the Steam Deck is, Valve will make it controller supported, just so that you can play CS2 on their handheld device. But for now, I recommend you just wait until it gets controller support to play it on your Steam Deck.
