Full Intel 12th gen mobile and desktop CPU lineup revealed at CES 2022

Intel’s gaming SKUs have been available for some time, but it has finally revealed the full lineup of 12th gen desktop and mobile CPUs at CES 2022. The reveal came during the company’s presentation at the annual event, showcasing its various new technologies for gamers and creators. 

Kicking things off with the desktop processors, Intel announced 22 new SKUs to cover the needs of any type of user. Ranging from Intel Celeron all the way through Core i9, the CPUs bring technology that Intel is hoping will grab back hold of the market share against its main competitor AMD.

At the high end of the list is the $489 USD Core i9-12900 featuring 16 cores, 24 threads, and a max boost of 5.1 GHz. At the lower end is the 2 core/2 threat Intel Celeron G6900T for just $42 USD. Though that’s not going to be great for pure gaming needs, but it could possibly work for those looking to set up a small local server for play.

Mobile takes center stage

On the mobile front, Intel also announced eight new processors at CES 2022, coming to laptops in 2022. The top CPU is the Core i9-12900HK with 14 cores and 20 threads. The new i9 mobile SKUs also feature a max boost of 5.0 GHz with a 45W base power.  At the low end, there are three Core i5 SKUs, the lowest being the i5-12450H with 8 cores and 12 threads. The highest i5, the i5-12600H, features 12 cores and 16 threads with a max boost of 4.5 GHz.

From a performance standpoint, Intel touts the Core i9-12900HK as having a number of improvements over both the Intel 11th generation processors and rival AMD Ryzen mobile chips. In Adobe Premiere, Intel claims a 44% performance increase in rendering, while using Blender sees 30% cut down in rendering time. From a gaming standpoint, Intel states that users will see a 28% increase in gen-over-gen performance in 1080p. 

The new processors also see the addition of Thunderbolt 4 with up to 40 Gbps of speed as well as improved WiFi performance.

New coolers coming your way

In addition to the full lineup of processors, Intel unveiled its new stock coolers aimed at allowing users to get full performance straight out of the box. The Intel Laminar RH1 Cooler ships with Core i9 processors, and features controllable RGB lighting with a larger copper heat column at 2.6BA. The Laminar RM1 is what users who buy Core i3, i5, and i7 processors will get, and it features a 3.9BA fan for quieter performance over the Laminar RS1 that Pentium and Celeron owners will get.

All of the new Intel 12th gen processors will be available this month, but it remains to be seen how scarce the supply will be once made available.
