Taking out Leshy and his, uh, pals.

Inscryption Act 1 boss guide – Leshy, the trials, and the Moon phase

Let’s talk about how we can defeat Leshy in Inscryption.

The Trials of Leshy

Compared to the other zones, Leshy’s area in Inscryption only has a single selectable non-hostile encounter prior to the fight. This is also when he presents you with two trials. They’re slightly similar to what you’ve experienced whenever you visited the Cave Dweller, but the requirements are very specific. For instance, you’re asked to draw three cards, and one of those needs to be a pelt card. In other cases, one drawn card has to have a specific sigil (i.e., Airborne) or one has to be a rare type.

However, one of the trials you can receive is the Trial of the Ring. If you picked up the ring from the Cuckoo Clock puzzle, then you’ll automatically pass one of two trials if it comes up. Just pray to the RNG gods that you can succeed in the other one to obtain additional powerful buffs.

Here are some of the boons you can receive:

  • Magpie’s Eye – You can choose any card when you draw from your deck. This is amazing, so make sure to get this if it’s available.
  • Ambidextrous – Draw twice at the beginning of your turn. This is another buff that you want to obtain.
  • The Forest – Start a battle with Grand Firs on all your board’s spaces.
  • Goat’s Blood – Start a battle with a Black Goat on your board.
  • Bone Lord – Start a battle with +8 bone tokens.

Phase 1: Face Swap

Every two turns, Leshy will use an ability from the previous bosses:

  • Prospector – Places Gold Nuggets in your entire row.
  • Angler – Hooks the last card that you played.
  • Trapper/Trader – Drops Leaping Traps on the opposing area (insta-kill when attacked).

Phase 2: Deathcard Assault

In phase 2, Leshy will spawn several tree cards as obstacles. Likewise, he’ll place some of the past Deathcards that you’ve created. Watch out in case you’ve made some nasty combos.

Phase 3: The Moon

This goes from strange to “WTF?” because Leshy just summoned the moon. This replaces his entire section of the board with a large canvas of the Moon (1/40). Yes, it’s got +1 ATK, but +40 HP. Also, it has Mighty Leap (blocks Airborne attacks), and it’s able to hit all spaces in your row. If you’re able to bring out your strongest cards here, then this will be a cakewalk. If not, then it’ll turn into a battle of attrition.

Assuming you can defeat Leshy, it’s time for us to finish this act. Let’s go to the next part of our Inscryption boss guide to see how we can escape The Cabin in Act 1.
