Lords of the Fallen, as most action games do, has a system that allows you to upgrade your gear to make it more powerful. If you are having difficulty, which will be happening a lot, then you will simply need to improve your weapons and shields. This is a good alternative to leveling up, as that can get very expensive very quickly. Here’s how to upgrade your gear in Lords of the Fallen.
Finding Gerlinde in Lords of the Fallen
In Lords of the Fallen, you would have come across a bit of Deralium, an item that says it is used to upgrade your weapons and armor. However, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who can lend a hand with this task. Not even in Skyrest Bridge, where they have access to a litany of other services.
This is because you need to find a blacksmith who is willing and able to help you. This is where Gerlinde comes in, a mighty woman who you’ll find locked up just beyond Pilgrim Perch Descent. You will hear her before you see her, as her hammer rings against her anvil.
Outside of her cage will be a bundle of enemies. Defeat them all, and one of them will drop a key that can be used to spring Gerlinde free. You can choose not to do this, but you’ll be missing out on the ability to improve your weapons and shields.
Talk to Gerlinde, and exhaust her dialogue to be able to pass her the key. After a short time, she’ll be gone, leaving the door of her cell open. You will find her next back at Skyrest Bridge.

Upgrading your gear in Lords of the Fallen
Once Gerlinde is safely in Skyrest Bridge, you can use her for her services. She can use Vigor and Deralium to upgrade your weapons and shields, improving the stats considerably. However, with each upgrade, the next becomes more expensive and may require a better Deralium item. So be careful about which items you are upgrading. You’d hate to heavily upgrade a sword only to find a better one a bit later.
She can also use any runes that you find to imbue with your weapons or shields. You can upgrade them to have access to more rune slots. Her slaved companion will warn you against bringing the runes to her. I cannot tell you how to choose to handle this delicate situation. Will the runes be worth the cost that her slave hints at? Is there a consequence at all?
I hope this has cleared things up for you. Be mindful not to spend all of your Deralium in one place, lamp bearer. For more Lords of the Fallen help, cast your lamp over to PC Invasion.
