In A Highland Song, you’ll notice the tied-up boat pretty quickly if you travel to the west side of the loch upon climbing your first peak. Here’s how to untie it and use it.
Untying the boat in A Highland Song
There are a few steps to liberating the boat in A Highland Song. I got rather lucky when I tried to untie it, so I hope you have the same luck. Otherwise, it may take you a rather long time to get it going.
The boat
The boat itself, if you ever need a reminder, is located right next to you when you take the west path from the first peak. Just take a few steps to the right and it’ll be there waiting for you.
The trout
When you first meet the boat, there are a few things that you can do to it. Each action is demarcated by a glowing white dot. Make sure to exhaust everything you can, most of which will be Moira dealing with a rather nasty trout.
Before heading over to the rock that it’s tied to, make sure to push the boat out. Yes, the boat will still be attached, but pushing out the boat will make the rope taut, which will make it easier to cut through.
Finding a knife
Finally, you’ll need to cut the line to set the boat free. Doing this, however, requires something sharp. I found the fisherman’s knife on that same ridge. I headed as far left as I could go and found a deer and a sprinting section. Below that, however, is a dead-end, as is apparent by the clustered trees. Just before them was an item that turned out to be the fisherman’s knife.
In A Highland Song, items are randomized, or at least some are. You may not find the fisherman’s knife there, in which case you’ll have to travel around to find it. I’d recommend you check out the Rusty Warehouse, just before the first peak, as I found a knife in there in another play-through.
Liberating the boat
With a sharp object in hand, return to the boat. You can now cut the taut line. Go back to the boat and push it one more time. Don’t worry, it won’t sail away. You’ll now be able to get in the boat and sail away! I wonder where it’ll take you…
