How to unlock the Zero Outfit in Dead Cells

Go from Hero to Zero with this killer look.

Dead Cells’ Everyone is Here updates were true multiversal events, bringing characters and objects from other popular indie games into its endlessly looping world. Volume two (Vol. II) of this update featured an all-star lineup, including Risk of Rain’s Commando, Slay the Spire’s Ironclad, and Shovel Knight’s Shovel Knight. It also featured an appearance from Katana Zero’s titular assassin, Zero, provided you know how to unlock his outfit for use in Dead Cells, of course.

Unlocking this outfit demands skills worthy of a master ninja: skills which, after you’re done reading this guide, you should be able to put into practice.

Dead Cells – Steps to unlock the Zero Outfit

Step 1: Unlock the Hattori’s Katana weapon

Before you can unlock the Zero Outfit, you’ll need the right tool for the job. In this case, the right tool is the Hattori’s Katana weapon, a Brutality-scaling sword with average attack speed, and the ability to perform a dash attack that passes through enemies for a critical hit.

The Blueprint for this weapon can be dropped by Weirded Warriors, the katana-wielding crab enemies found in the Stilt Village biome. The drop chance is fairly low, so you may need to make quite a few passes through the area before you get it, but persevere and it’ll be yours before long. Once you have the Blueprint, you can unlock the Katana itself via the Collector, for 60 Cells.

Step 2: Use the Katana’s critical dash to kill 15 consecutive enemies

Now that you have Hattori’s Katana in your arsenal, you can begin the unlock process for the Zero Outfit in Dead Cells. What you need to do is kill 15 consecutive enemies with the Katana’s critical dash attack without getting hit. You can activate this attack by continuing to hold down the attack button after a standard attack. It will cause you to dash forward, dealing critical damage to anything you pass through as you do so.

The charging time on the critical dash makes this difficult to pull off without getting hit, particularly in biomes with a lot of fast-moving enemies. Your best bet is to attempt this challenge in the Prisoners’ Quarter biome. This also allows you to restart your run until Hattori’s Katana is given as one of your starting weapon choices, saving you the hassle of tracking one down yourself.

It’s crucial that you take things slowly while attempting this challenge, both to ensure you don’t get hit, and so you don’t accidentally kill an enemy with a normal attack, which will mess with your total. Single out your enemies, keep a safe distance, and deliver your critical dash attacks when you can. It shouldn’t take long to reach the 15 kills required doing things this way, at which point the Zero Outfit will be automatically unlocked for use, with no need to purchase it with Cells from the Collector.

And that’s that. Now you know how to unlock the Zero Outfit in Dead Cells. Try pairing it with a stealthy Tactics build for an authentic ninja experience.
