How to unlock more Statue slots in Blasphemous 2

Great art cannot be created without great suffering.

Blasphemous 2, from its regular areas to its large-scale boss battles, is a very difficult game. There are ways to mitigate this difficulty, however, one of which is the game’s Statue system. These are items that can be equipped for passive bonuses, some of which can be game-changing in terms of impact. To make the most of this feature, you’ll need to learn how to unlock more Statue slots in Blasphemous 2. Read on to do just that.

How to increase your Statue capacity in Blasphemous 2

You’ll first encounter the Statue system in the City of the Blessed Name, through the door right next to the area’s Prie Dieu save point. Here you’ll meet Montañés, a sculptor working on his masterpiece. He’ll ask you to help him out by bringing him various tools and supplies you’ll find along your quest, but he’ll also give you immediate access to the Statue system via the Altarpiece of Favours.

Here, you’ll be able to view your available Statue slots, and place Statues you’ve found in them. To start with, you’ll only have two slots available, but you can have up to eight. To unlock these additional slots, you need to speak to Montañés, and select the ‘Increase Altarpiece capacity’ option. You will then be asked to pay a certain number of Marks of Martyrdom, depending on how many slots you’ve unlocked previously:

  • 1 Mark of Martyrdom for the first slot you unlock.
  • 2 Marks of Martyrdom for the second slot you unlock.
  • 3 Marks of Martyrdom for the third slot you unlock.
  • 4 Marks of Martyrdom for the fourth slot you unlock.
  • 5 Marks of Martyrdom for the fifth slot you unlock.
  • 10 Marks of Martyrdom for the sixth slot you unlock.

This means that in order to unlock all six additional Statue slots, you’ll need to redeem a total of 25 Marks of Martyrdom with Montañés. You can acquire these Marks of Martyrdom in various ways, these being:

  • Collecting a certain number of Martyrdom Points by defeating enemies. (Up to 40 Marks of Martyrdom can be acquired this way in one playthrough)
  • Defeating bosses in the game.
  • Finding them as rewards on altars in the game’s various areas.

Early on, you’ll probably want to devote most of your Marks of Martyrdom to advancing your weapon skill trees and improving your combat options, but it’s a good idea to expand your Altarpiece of Favours when you can as well. The first two slots are very reasonably priced, and give you the option of equipping two extra Statues and one extra Resonance, so they’re a great investment as soon as you have two good Statues to fill them. As for the rest, pick them up when you can, and you’ll be well-equipped with passive buffs to deal with the challenges Blasphemous 2’s late game brings.

So there you have it: a full guide on how to unlock more Statue slots in Blasphemous 2. It’s a simple process, but one that’s easy to miss in the game’s vast, twisting world, and even easier to forget as your quest takes you further and further afield. For those who keep their Altarpiece well-stocked with Statues, however, that quest will proceed a lot more smoothly.
