Gotta go fast!

Cysts are one of many repeatable activities that open after beating the Final Shape campaign. Let me show you how to unlock and complete all Cyst missions in Destiny 2 and explain the four-minute challenge.

How to unlock Cysts in Destiny 2: The Final Shape

You can access Cysts by completing the Alone in the Dark quests from Micah-10 in the Lost City. These missions have a few steps and usually require finding ghosts in Lost Sectors.

Once you’ve found a ghost, you typically have to open Overthrow chests in specific locations. It’s not difficult, but it’s time-consuming. The final step of each Alone in the Dark quest will be a short activity in zones all over the Pale Heart.

The “Cyst” part of each quest is behind a locked door with Hive Runes. It’s easy to open. Just shoot the runes on the nearby walls in the order they appear on the door from top to bottom.

Once you’ve finished the mission and returned to Micah-10, you can repeat the last part as a Cyst mission, which appears on the map.

You can complete the Alone in the Dark quests at your own pace. Several weapons are up for grabs, so the quests are worth the trouble.

You can find the Going Fast Triumph in the Exploration section of the Pale Heart Triumphs page. To earn this brutal Triumph, you must complete the following Cysts within four minutes:

  • Sword Dance Trial
  • Moth-Infested Cavern Trial
  • Slayer Trial
  • Searing Light Trial
  • Aerial Ace Trial
  • Smothering Darkness Trial

Some of these are much harder than others, and I recommend dragging a complete Fireteam along for the ride to make them more manageable. You’ll probably complete a couple of them on your first attempt. The Slayer Trial, for example, even has a Triumph for beating the boss within 30 seconds, so there’s plenty of time.

As for the rest, expect each Trial to take a few goes while you learn the route as a team. The timer seems to start the moment you open the locked Hive Door. Unfortunately, the timer isn’t displayed in-game, so I recommend using a stop clock on your phone to track progression.

I should mention that some of these trials are obnoxiously tough. I cannot work out how to beat the Moth Infested Cavern within four minutes as I spend most of that Cyst staring at the respawn screen. A build that can reliably access Amplified, Radiant, or a Void Overshield may help, but you’ll need to memorize the route regardless.

If the Cyst missions are dragging you down, why not take a shot at the Exotic Class items? The questline is no joke, but a one-of-a-kind experience with a friend.
