Aloalo Island is the Southern Sea Islands-themed Variant Dungeon in FFXIV. If you want to go on yet another dangerous island vacation, here’s how to unlock Aloalo Island.
The Variant Dungeons have taken us beneath the remains of an extinct civilization and to a remote mountain area of Hingashi infested with malevolent spirits. Now it’s time to traverse an area we’ve not been to yet: The South Sea Isles, and the horrors of unchecked growth.
Aloalo Island unlock – requirements and starting NPC
To unlock Aloalo Island, you need to have finished 6.1 through “A Satrap’s Duty.” You also need Variant Dungeons unlocked in the first place. This is done via the quest “An Odd Job” from Osmon in Old Sharlayan (12, 13.4).
With all of that covered, the quest you need is “Stranger from Paradise.” The easiest route is to Aetheryte to Scholar’s Harbor and run up to Shallow Moor in front of the guild (12, 13.4). She’ll set you on the right path.

Watch through the cutscene (or skip it, whatever. Up to you) and then Aetheryte to The Great Work in Thavnair. Navigate from the Aetheryte to the right path, past the Junkmonger. Talk with Pasasun at (10.4, 23.8). A long exposition cutscene follows. Afterward, teleport to Yedlihmad and run or fly down the dock area. Take a right down the final dock to speak to Pasasun again at (24.5, 37.1). After your discussion with him, Aloalo Island will be officially unlocked.
Variant Dungeons use their own duty finder menu. Navigate down to the Duty menu and select “V&C Dungeon Finder.” Select Matsya’s portrait and then click Register for Duty. Note you can do Variant Dungeons solo, with a party, or randomly match with others if you check “Enable Party Matching.” Get through the Variant Dungeon in whichever manner suits you best.
