How to talk to and negotiate with demons in SMTV: Vengeance

An offer you will most likely refuse.

Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance: How to talk to demons

During my playthrough of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance I kept failing at talking to demons, and rarely would I get the chance to recruit one. Unfortunately, there’s no easy trick to winning 100% of the time with these demons, but you can more easily negotiate with demons by paying attention to the moon phases.

While some demons will ask ambiguous questions that result in answers that could either be right or wrong, others will strike up a deal to trade you for items. If you end up giving these demons what they want, whether it’s the right answer or the right items, they’ll come to your side and you can recruit them into your party.

SMTV: Vengeance isn’t easy when it comes to demon negotiation, but the one way you can make it go your way is by checking the moon phases. If you notice that a demon isn’t very happy with you on one day, check the top left corner for the moon phase. On another moon phase their personality will change, allowing you a better chance at recruiting them.

Other than the moon phases, if a demon asks for Macca, some of your HP or MP, or even a consumable item, you’ll need to give it to them to have them accept you. Most times I’ve given demons something before they ask for more and I’ve declined, they get angry and start a fight with me. If they ask for too much, just say no because it’s not worth the attempt.

When the demons ask you a strange question, there’s no real right answer. Sometimes they’ll be mad at one answer, and if you answer the same thing to another demon’s exact question they may react differently.

It’s also a good idea to eliminate all other demons in the group before trying to talk to the one you want. This is because if you fail at negotiation they won’t all get a free turn to hit you, it’ll only be one turn from the last demon alive.

Hopefully, this guide on how to talk to and negotiate with demons in SMTV: Vengeance gave you a clearer understanding of how demon negotiation works. It’s just as difficult as it was in the original SMTV, and no easier in the new Canon of Vengeance storyline.
