The Final Shape campaign has some of the most enjoyable and challenging story missions in Destiny 2 of all time, ever. Emphasis on the challenging, as interesting mechanics in the story force you to think outside the box (or in this case, inside the bubble). So let’s meld Light and Dark together, and figure out how to survive the instant kill attack in Iconoclasm’s final boss fight in Destiny 2.
Quick preface, we will be talking about the later missions and story of The Final Shape, so pretty large SPOILER WARNING. The mission you had to complete before jumping into the brand-new raid tasks you with weakening the Witness in order to deal with it properly.
Destiny 2 — How to survive the instant kill attack in Iconoclasm
This mission is titled Iconoclasm, and at the end of it, you’ll finally come face to face with the dreaded Witness, kinda. While you don’t exactly fight him, you do deal damage to his health bar in this fight of endurance.
After dealing with the Subjugator and dodging the Witness’ attacks, you’ll be able to enter the left corridor to grab a Shield of Aegis. After that, you’ll want to wait for the shield’s ultimate ability to charge, and then fire it at the Subjugator to deal more damage to it.
Don’t drop the shield though, because immediately after you do this, you and your entire fireteam need to make your way to the back of the arena, around where you first entered. Here, you should notice a fissure of Light coming out from the ground.
In order to survive the instant kill attack in Iconoclasm’s final boss fight, you must stand over the fissure of Light with the shield and hold down the shield block button (“C” on M/KB, LT/L2 on Controller).
If you do this in the proper area, you should not lose any charge from the shield, allowing you to perfectly buff yourself from the insta-kill attack hitting the arena.
Any fellow Guardians with you will also need to be inside the circular shield for the entirety of the attack, which is about 10-15 seconds. You’ll need to do this a total of two times in the encounter, but once you’re done and have completed the majority of TFS campaign, you can now focus on raising your Light level to the Power cap and beyond.
