As you’re getting used to the controls and mechanics of Nightingale, you may get stuck trying to figure out how to split item stacks.

Nightingale: How to split item stacks

The game doesn’t exactly tell you how to separate stacks of items, so I was left wondering how to get one or a few items instead of the entire pile. You can split item stacks in Nightingale by holding the “Shift” key while dragging the stack from one area to another.

Let’s imagine you’re trying to take items from a chest and you want to split some of the stack into your inventory. All you have to do is hold this “Shift” key while clicking and dragging the pile into your inventory.

A pop-up will appear asking how much you’d like to take from that stack with a slider. You can also do this when trying to split the stack into a campfire if you don’t want to use up all your fuel. For now, that’s the only way to do this.

Perhaps later into the development of this Early Access game, we’ll see an option to evenly split a stack with more efficiency, or even just being able to take one at a time. But for now, if you don’t want to take the entire stack, you need to use the “Shift” key method.

Unfortunately, you cannot split a stack just inside your inventory, which is something I hope Inflexion Games also fixes at some point. You can only split stacks between two different areas. Once you figure that out, you may also find it helpful to learn how to get Twine in Nightingale, as that puzzled me as well.
