The Wind Maze is the first section of Sea of Stars that may leave you scratching your head. This is a complicated area, and you’re left to your own devices until you figure it out. This place gives a real taste of the type of puzzle-solving you’ll come to master in Sea of Stars. If you need some guidance, here’s how to solve the Wind Maze.
How to solve the Wind Maze in Sea of Stars
Just so we’re all on the same page, this guide starts from when the Mayor takes the lift back up to town. Save and heal if you’ve not done so already, and jump down the elevator shaft and into the maze.
Defeat the enemies in the main chamber. Then, take the ladder and tightrope into the next room.
By now, you’re no stranger to the enemies down here, but remember, the ants resist regular attacks. The flying enemies really hurt, so try to memorize their attack timing for blocking.
Follow the path outside and jump down to the doorway. In the following room, there’s a green crystal you can’t move just yet. Ignore it for now and go up the ladder. Keep going right until you hit a campfire.
Make sure to cook if you have space for more meals, then jump down to your right behind the green crystal and enter the cave. Inside, you’ll find the Mistral Bracelet, a powerful item that lets you push blocks with wind!
Now, you can move that crystal outside! When you do, it triggers a mini-boss battle.
Mini Boss – Salamander
This little guy is weak to magic and boosted attacks but still packs a punch.
It’s critical that you break his bar whenever it shows up. If you don’t, the boss will use an attack called Salamanger. This attack deals roughly 30 dmg to 2 party members and is very hard to block.
Remember, if you do a Boosted Attack with Valere, it counts for one blunt and one moon on the bar. It’s okay to rely on your regular attacks while stockpiling MP and orbs for Boosts.
With the boss defeated, jump over the gap to your right and push the crystal to the switch on the ground:
Push the crystal in the next area so you can use it as a platform to reach the chest. It has a Mines Key inside, so make sure to get it!
Now, go outside. Drop down, head right, and push the crystal. There’s an optional fight with a chest of Teal Amber Ore up for grabs. Otherwise, take the stairs to the cave mouth.
Once you beat all the enemies in here, go through the hole in the wall where the wind flows. Take the ladder up to the newly revealed propeller and use your bracelet.
Push the crystal onto the switch, then do the same to the newly revealed block to the left. You can use this to hoist up to the next area.
Just as before, follow the path around and defeat the large enemy in the hole to open up the next area.
You’re close to finishing the maze now. Head up the ladder near the mine shaft, push the crystal around, and use it as a platform to jump across the gap.
There are a couple of Crystal puzzles to solve. Push the crystals as I have in the images below. For the puzzle with 2 Crystals, move the one at the top into position first:
Push the crystal not on the switch to the left and into the next area, then follow the route in the picture below:
With both puzzles solved, use the new green crystal to reach the propeller above and head inside to face the mighty Malkomud! If the boss is giving you grief, don’t worry; we have a guide for him as well!
