During Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3, you may eventually wonder how to save the Gondians. One of the Gondians will ask that you save their Gondian families, who are being held captive somewhere.
While you eventually figure out they’re held in the Iron Throne, finding this out can be difficult. Let me explain how to help these Gondians and their families.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Save the Gondians quest guide
Once you make it inside the Steel Watch Foundry (which we have a guide for), go find Zanner Toobin in the Security Office near the back of the building. You’ll inevitably have to fight the people working at the Steel Watch and the mechanical Steel Watchers keeping the Gondian workers hostage. You’ll save the Gondians in Baldur’s Gate 3 by finding evidence of where the Iron Throne is and rescuing the captive families.
How to find the Iron Throne in BG3
You need to first find the clues to where this Iron Throne is. Luckily, it’s not too far off. Head down to the Lab Level of the Steel Watch Foundry. Then, in the northwestern corner of the room, you’ll find a ladder leading up to a higher area. Up there is a wooden shelf with a letter named “Vessel Identified.”
After reading this letter, you’ll discover that these Gondians’ families are held inside the Iron Throne, a fortified underwater prison. Now that you know this new information, your quest should update and lead you to Flymm Cargo.
Once you make it into Flymm Cargo, you’ll end up fighting a few hostile creatures stuck inside. On the ground, you should find a hatch covered by some crates and barrels. Click and drag everything off of the hatch to get inside.
Now that you’re underground, keep heading south, and you’ll eventually find the Submersible that takes you to the Iron Throne. Unfortunately, Redhammer the Deviser is blocking the way, so convince him to let you by.

How to rescue the Gondians in BG3
Upon making it inside the Iron Throne, you’ll realize you only get a few rounds to save as many of the hostages as you can. It depends on your difficulty level, but it’ll be around six to eight rounds. Although you’re here for the Gondians, keep in mind that characters like the Grand Duke and Omeluum are also imprisoned, so you should consider saving them as well.
Watch out for the many Sahuagin creatures you’ll have to fight as well, and consider trying to cast spells (Expeditious Retreat or Longstrider) or drink potions that increase your speed. You not only have to unlock their cells but make sure the Gondians make it back to the Submersible without dying.
Looking at the Iron Throne map, the Gondians are on the east, west, and center cells. The Duke is on the eastern side, while Omeluum is in a southwestern cell. Simply press the button or pull the lever holding their cell door shut, then the hostages will take their turns Dashing back to the Submersible.
Although it’s difficult, it’s definitely possible to save every single Gondian. Even if you couldn’t save a few, the Gondians in the Steel Watch Foundry will be grateful for all your help.
