Ramattra is a Tank hero in Overwatch 2 and was the first new tank added to the free-to-play sequel. He’s also one of the few omnics of the game and is a moral opposite in contrast to the more peaceful and supportive Zenyatta. This hunk of metal can become a real nemesis on the battlefield, empowering himself and sapping the life force out of enemies standing in his path. As one of the only tanks designed with 5v5 in mind, Ramattra is a scary beast with tons of tools at his disposal.
Ramattra can make space and take names, but it’s important to know how to maneuver the hero. Here are some tips to utilize his abilities to the fullest.

How to play Ramattra in Overwatch 2 – Tips and tricks
In Overwatch 2, Ramattra is a tank hero with the ability to place shields and make space with his Nemesis Form. This allows Ramattra to swap between his Nemesis Form and shield placement and become the ultimate jack-of-all-trades tank. Ramattra’s ‘Primary Fire’ shoots a steady stream of projectiles towards the enemy. The damage is decent, but each bullet has some travel distance making it a little difficult to consistently land. Meanwhile, his ‘Secondary Fire’ places his shield at a certain location before going on a cooldown.
‘Nemesis Form’ is Ramattra’s left-shift ability, and allows him to transform into a totally different beast. You’ll gain some bonus armor and have empowered melee attacks that replace your primary fire. You’ll also get a new ‘Secondary Fire’ ability, ‘Block,’ which allows you to significantly take less damage from any attacks dealt to the front. His ‘E’ ability is ‘Ravenous Vortex,’ which shoots out a small zone that deals damage, slows movement speed, and prevents your enemies in the field from jumping out.
His Ultimate ability, ‘Annihilation,’ brings Ramattra into his Nemesis Form. Getting energy from enemies around you, you deal damage to nearby enemies and are permanently in your Nemesis Form. The more enemies in your ultimate, the longer it lasts — up to 20 seconds.
Now that you understand Ramattra’s abilities, follow these tips so you can utilize them better:
You can still melee while in Nemesis Form
Ramattra’s Nemesis Form transforms his Primary Fire into melee-ranged attacks, but it doesn’t bar him from using his melee ability completely. One reason you might wish to use your melee attack is to cancel a string of Primary Fire attacks. For example, a fast combo to kill a squishy enemy is to use three Primary Fire attacks and then quickly cancel it into a melee. This can be useful to quickly confirm kills, as the rate of fire for his other melee attack is not spectacular.
Use your Nemesis Form as a safety tool
Nemesis Form turns Ramattra into a brawler, an aggressive tank hero who wants to do nothing more than go in and punch. But the tempo of the match might have you need to use the Nemesis Form another way. As of this writing, Nemesis Form will give Ramattra a flat 225 armor when it is activated, and the effect is immediate. Needlessly using the Nemesis Form can bar you from using this tool defensively. An immediate burst of 225 armor can be the difference between life and death.
Ramattra’s shield is not a traditional shield
While his shield has 1,000 health, it is not a useful shield in the traditional sense of what Overwatch 2 players might expect. This shield only lasts for a temporary amount of time — about four seconds — before it disappears completely. Therefore, using Ramattra as a Reinhardt or Sigma alternative is not how to use the shield. Don’t expect to be able to use Ramattra’s shield as a permanent perch for your Widowmaker to play behind.
Speaking of Widowmakers, Ramattra’s shield can go far and long, and can often be used to block the sight of enemy snipers or hitscan far away. The effect is immediate, and this can be an important and offensive way to use Ramattra’s shield, getting the enemy DPS to reposition. It can also be used to block healers like Ana from being able to reach their teammates, forcing them to reposition.
Your Ultimate still adds temporary armor
Ramattra’s ability to give himself some extra armor isn’t just limited to his Left Shift ability. As his Ultimate turns him into his Nemesis Form, it will still add the 225 armor you get from transforming into it through his Left Shift. This means you can go into Nemesis Form, wait for it to run out, and use your Ultimate, thereby creating an unstoppable behemoth.
Your E ability is a projectile
Ramattra sends out a field with his ‘E’ ability, Ravenous Vortex, which creates a zone that deals damage and prevents you from jumping. This can be a strong area denial tool, and a way to catch more mobile targets like Genji. Unfortunately, this ability can also be reflected, as it is a projectile. This means other abilities that soak up projectiles, such as D.Va’s ‘Defense Matrix,’ can also be used to deny this ability. Be wary of tossing this out.
