How to open the Chapel door in Alone in the Dark

A human hand, a sheep and a goat walk into a cemetery

Puzzles make up half the fun of a game like Alone in the Dark. Some are no trouble to decipher, while others can take a while. And towards the end of Chapter 2, you’ll encounter the latter in the form of three medallions and a door.

Thankfully, we’re going to figure out how to open the Chapel door in Alone in the Dark.

Alone in the Dark — How to open the Chapel door

Finishing the boilerplate puzzle and using your Talisman, you find yourself in a graveyard just before the end of chapter 2. During this section, there are enemies you can either fight or attempt to sneak past. But along your way to finding Jeremy, you’ll pick up three medallions you can’t miss. Their locations aren’t what’s confusing about this puzzle, it’s what you do with all of them.

Even if you are using certain Player Guidance settings, there won’t be any useful tips once you reach the Chapel door. On the front of the door, there’s a place for all three medallions you’ve collected.

Furthermore, you must place the medallions in the right spot with the right orientation. My first playthrough was halted slightly when reaching this puzzle, but thankfully, there is an easy solution.

Here is the correct placement and orientation for all the medallions in Alone in the Dark:

There isn’t much you’ll need to worry about past this point, as entering the Chapel triggers a cutscene, ending the chapter. Part of what makes this puzzle, and other puzzles difficult, is that it’s simple. Alone in the Dark introduces puzzles and their mechanics to you, only to make the last version of said puzzle type extremely easy.

This same problem persists heavily throughout the game with other puzzles, such as opening the Cargo Manifest safe. And with limited types of puzzles, it left me wishing for something more.
