How to level up lockpicking in Fallout 76

Finders keepers.

If you want to get into safes and unlock doors that are tougher than the rest in Fallout 76, then you’ll need to improve your lockpicking skill. Although lockpicking itself is the same, improving this skill works a little differently.

All lockpicking perk cards in Fallout 76

Like the other skills in Fallout 76, you’ll need to find lockpicking perk cards. Contrary to what you may expect, the lockpicking perk cards all only have one rank, meaning you can’t equip duplicates of the same type and you can’t combine them to improve them.

This means you’ll have to find all three lockpicking perk cards if you want to improve this skill, although if you level up your Perception enough, you’ll be able to equip all three for the best lockpicking ability.

Here are all the lockpick perk cards in Fallout 76:

Perk CardEffectUnlock level
PicklockGain +1 lockpicking skill, and the lockpicking “sweet spot” is 10% larger.5
Expert PicklockGain +1 lockpicking skill, and the lockpicking “sweet spot” is 10% larger.19
Master PicklockGain +1 lockpicking skill, and the lockpicking “sweet spot” is 10% larger.40

Interestingly, all of these perk cards do the same thing, so to benefit greater from these perk cards, you will have no choice but to level up your Perception to equip them all.

These aren’t the only perk cards in Fallout 76 that help with lockpicking, however. The Master Infiltrator legendary perk card helps with lockpicking and hacking. Note that this does make the other Picklock perk cards redundant, and they do not stack, allowing you to equip other Perception perk cards.

Master Infiltrator RankEffectUpgrade cost
Rank 1Auto-unlock skill 0 terminals and locks. +3 Lockpick and Hacking skills.N/A
Rank 2Auto-unlock skill 1 terminals and locks. +3 Lockpick and Hacking skills.50 Perk Coins
Rank 3Auto-unlock skill 2 terminals and locks. +3 Lockpick and Hacking skills.100 Perk Coins
Rank 4Auto-unlock skill 3 terminals and locks. +3 Lockpick and Hacking skills.150 Perk Coins

Remember that you’ll be able to pick one of the 26 legendary perk cards for free after unlocking your first legendary perk slot, which unlocks at level 50. You’ll be able to upgrade the rank of these legendary perk cards using Perk Coins, which are earned by scrapping regular perk cards.

How to get perk cards in Fallout 76

To earn the Picklock perk cards in Fallout 76, you’ll need to earn and open perk card packs.

You will earn these perk card packs at levels 4, 6, 8 10, and then every 5th level earned after. As there is no level cap, you’ll be able to earn theoretically an infinite amount of perk card packs, so you’ll eventually stumble into unlocking every Picklock perk card.

As duplicate Picklock cards are useless, as they can’t be ranked up, you may be fortunate to have a team member share a Picklock perk card with you. Although I wouldn’t be too keen to count on altruism in the wasteland.

And that’s all you need to know about increasing your lockpicking skill in Fallout 76. Soon enough, no one’s stashed goods will be safe from your pilfering appendages. Not even the Vault Dwellers.
