The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Wild brings a sprawling world to the table, populated by some of the same monsters players have been battling for years. A lot of them are more fearsome than ever, including some of the ones that now populate the many caves spread throughout Hyrule. Tears of the Kingdom – how to kill Like Like cave worms

If you have been playing The Legend of Zelda, the Like Like monsters are one more nostalgic reminder of the franchise’s earliest days. I still remember stumbling across my first Like Like in the first game’s sixth dungeon and watching in dismay as it inhaled Link, then scarfed down his expensive Magic Shield. These days, you’ll find them clinging to the walls of caves, perched high up so they have a vantage point from which to fire boulders and elemental attacks your way.

To defeat a Like Like, you can’t just get near and start swinging your sword. For one thing, it is generally too high to reach. For another, its gooey armor absorbs most blows. You should take out the Like Like cave worms by using fire.

Unfortunately, the Like Like is only weak to attacks you mount against its core. The core is a spherical hunk of rock it typically keeps enclosed within its mass. The trick is to get near enough that it sees you and starts attacking. Dodge whatever it spews your way, and be careful about it. Some of those attacks do a lot of damage. Once the onslaught briefly ends, the Like Like will expose its vulnerability.

Quickly, before the Like Like thinks better of making itself easy to damage, fire an arrow at that core. If you can, infuse the arrow with the fire element, using an item such as Fire Fruit. This increases damage dealt. The first time I took out a Like Like in the game, I had run out of arrows. However, I got close and threw some of the blazing fruit into its mouth, which accomplished the same thing. You may also be carrying a flame-emitting weapon or shield, which can work.

Fire attacks inflict elemental damage and send the screeching creature to the floor. It lingers there for a brief period, writhing around in apparent agony. Rather than pausing for a moment to process potential feelings of remorse, rush up to the creature and hit it with standard melee weapons. It may have a lot of life on its meter, so hit it with something powerful. Eventually, your foe will return to the ceiling. Back off to a safe distance and repeat the process as needed.

When you face a Like Like, keep in mind that there may be more than one of them in the area. They may also have brought other allies, as well. Be ready to heal yourself if something should go awry. You’re likely near a substantial reward, but not if you get killed while trying to collect it. As a neat bonus, a slain Like Like may drop a rare item. I killed an electric-based one I found at the bottom of the well near Highland Stable, for instance, and it dropped a Shock Like Stone. Nice!
