Can you increase the max ant population in Empires of the Undergrowth?

When starting Empires of the Undergrowth, you’ll only be able to have a maximum of 100 ants. It doesn’t matter what ants you field, you can only have 100 of them running around at a time. Thankfully, it does increase, but only at certain intervals.

100 ants may seem like a lot, but when you take on your first formicarium challenge, you may find it difficult to keep up. If you want any more ants to help defend your Queen, then you’ll need more ants.

Unfortunately, the only way to increase your maximum ant capacity is by completing the gateway missions.

This means that only through progression will you be able to field more ants, so you can’t increase the max ant capacity by doing anything special. If you’re struggling with a formicarium challenge, then you won’t be able to have more ants than the current formicarium allows.

Each completion of a gateway mission grants you an additional 25 maximum ants for your formicarium, which is needed as you’ll also get given a new ant type to play with.

This may seem harsh, but it isn’t the quantity of ants that’ll help you conquer these gateway missions, but the quality of your ants and a huge food supply.

Tips for the formicarium challenges in Empires of the Undergrowth

If you’re pining after more ants in your formicarium, then it’s safe to say you’re likely struggling with the formicarium challenges in Empires of the Undergrowth. Worry not, as there are some things you can do to turn the tides in your favor.

Make sure that you don’t have more than 15 workers. Although workers are essential for the laying of larvae and eggs, you’ll need as many soldiers as possible on the field. Even 15 may be a little generous, but then again 85 black ants are an almost unstoppable force.

Make sure to have lots of food on standby. You don’t need 100 ants to fend off the invaders; as long as you have the food to keep hatching new ants, you’ll benefit from hundreds of ants. Having fewer brood tiles and more food allows your workers to efficiently keep on top of the larvae placement, keeping a solid and steady stream of black ants.

Make sure to level up your black ant brood tiles and level up their adaptations. You can repeat levels for more food and Royal Jelly to spend on upgrades. So if your Black Ants aren’t up for the task of defending the Queen, then make sure to improve them.

With these tips, you won’t need to worry about getting more ants to fight for your Queen.

Now that you know how to increase, and get around, the max ant population in Empires of the Undergrowth, you’ll be ready to face whatever the scientists throw at you.
