Cities: Skylines II: How to increase citizen happiness

The happiness of your citizens depends on your actions and whether you have the money or not to invest in new buildings. This all sums up in “the people need something, are you able to give it to them?” all while trying to keep a decently distributed and appealing city with all the services, housing options, and leisure activities possible. Since citizen happiness depends on almost every single thing you do in-game, here are some major things you need to take care of to ensure citizen happiness in Cities: Skylines II:

Tips for increasing citizen happiness in Cities: Skylines II

  • Provide all basic needs: Water, electricity, sewage lines, and even transportation services need to be interconnected and well distributed if you want to succeed as a city manager. One mistake could leave a whole neighborhood in the dark or dying of thirst.
  • Offer a variety of housing options: Your citizens will need a variety of housing options for them to pick from. Relying too much on one type of housing will lead to your citizens not being able to afford rent. Moreover, they will even try to look for other housing options fitter for their “status”.
  • Take care of your citizens’ well-being: If you are not careful, your citizens will begin to fall ill. If there are no healthcare providers, this could end up in many lives lost. Moreover, your citizens could fall victim to fires and even crime. Invest in hospitals, fire stations, and police stations to counter the game’s several dangers.
  • Invest in your citizens’ future: Build high schools, colleges, and industrial and commercial buildings. This will ensure that your citizens get educated and have work opportunities.
  • Let them have fun!: Be sure to create enough commercial zones that will be able to house the perfect leisure activities for your citizens.
  • Avoid pollution at all costs: Pollution is the fastest way you can make your citizens go from happy to voting you out in the next election. Watch out for noise, water, ground, and air pollution and get rid of pollution sources in time.
